Some people have asked me how I started my weight loss. My first few months in the blog archive explain it all.

Tossing Cookies

I have no ideas. I am at a blog impasse. Anyone have any questions?

Until I come up with something - throw away the left over treats even if they cost a fortune, clear off the counter tops. Do it quick before you reason out just why you should save them and come up with a phantom you were saving them for. Don't kid a kidder, we all know the peppermint ice cream in the freezer hidden behind the chicken is for you once the kids go to school. Pull it out quickly and pepper it, salt it, pour salsa on it and put it under hot water. Take the Ferro Rochers to the gals you visit teach, let them figure out what to do with it. Send the Frangos or other seasonal candy to your husbands boss and get a raise which will then pay for your new skinny clothes. You may think you deserve these treats, but you deserve a cute butt more. Trust me on this one. It feels great to shop somewhere other than Layne Bryant.

Anyone ever had a skinny cow ice cream sandwich? Replace the dangerous stuff with something a bit more safe. Toss the cookies. Christmas is over.

Toss cookies?
You want us to become bulimic?
Sheesh.
Only joking. You KNOW what kind of mood I'm in.

How did you know about the peppermint ice cream? And, the huge box of 48 Ferrero Rocher chocolates I got for Christmas? (My secret with those, is that I keep the box all taped up so that I am only tempted to take out one of the chocolates when I'm in the mood to completely unwrap the box and then wrap it up again with the long piece of sealing tape. Marc won't even go near it because it doesn't want to deal with the tape situation... lol)

BTW, last night Marc mentioned you used to work at a place where you made those Granny's cookies... my response to him was, "gosh, I wonder why she hasn't blogged about that yet... I'm sure she'd have some interesting things to tell about that."

Does that trigger any blogging inspiration?

Brilliant! I've begun to do this already, actually, but have only managed about a 75% clear out. Must...press...on...

LOL at Carrot's comment--I was going to say I was glad you didn't title the post "toss your cookies"!!!

I should post a picture of the little stash I received from my hubby. I did put the M&M peanuts out for my party on New Years Day. Will work on the rest.

That's on the to do list-to toss the junk. have you tried the 100 calorie york cookies? Those are really yummy and can suppress the sweet need.

I think by husbands co-workers actually look forward to all the fat I dole out to them... I just don't get it!

I relate to the blog-block a little... I even stole from you... sorry! But it was great and I loved it!

We don't have any to throw out, we ate them all! And there were dozens of them. How terrible is that? At least they're gone now so I can start down the right track.

this morning after breakfast, i called my kids to the bar and told them, "have at these cookies and candy. in ten minutes, everything is going in the garbage!" surprisingly, they each chose one cookie and were finished. they must be as sick of rich food as i am. time to get that cute butt you were talking about!

We have the same problem around our house: too much food (especially the yummy but high calorie kind), and I just could not bring myself to throw it away. I kept having these images of starving children that I used to tell my own children in order to get them to eat their carrots. Then Sunday matters got worse when someone gave me a belated gift of Ghirardelli milk chocolates. I LOVE those little squares of absolute sweet, savory, delectable goodness. However, I was strong and did not open them. Yesterday I gave the tempting goodies to the missionaries, and they were elated.

Do people really want our samples of our favorite cookies as gifts? One year I got a tin of "regifted" cookies. How do I know they were regifted? Because the ones at the bottom were moldy and the regifter, had she made them, would have known when they would have expired.

We should all work to change the holiday cookie tradition. Following the example of a friend, this year instead of giving calories, I made donations in friends names to the Central Asia Institute, copied the donation slip, printed off pictures of the children the money sponsored, wrote that they could read more about it in the book, "Three Cups of Tea" and put it all in a pretty Christmas card. It felt good and I didn't pull out a single cookie sheet in December. I'm still being thanked for the nice gift.

I think we should start a campaign. Instead of making and eating cookies during the holidays, lets send the $5 cookie ingredients money and donate it to a humanitarian fund in friends names. That way we can sleep well at night knowing we are making a difference in the world, and as an added bonus, look thinner and not feel guilty about dumping each others treats in the trash on New Years Day.

PS I threw my goodies in the trash and didn't dumpster dive once!

This is what you should blog about - how great vegetables taste.

I like your "salt it, pepper it..." idea. Very final. And I LOVE Skinny Cow. :)

Carrot, I think you should toss the cake you have been holding for two years, it does look lovely, but...
Marc and megan - my crystal ball knows all, about granny b's - well lets say I know where I got my Freshman 50.
Kimberly, way to go! give the remaining 25% to the poor.
Yvonne, sharing is the first step. I know what a sacrifice bringing out the stash is.
Davis family - getting out my grocery list... thanks!
Janice, I love your blog, so you can steal from me anytime.
Tara, any bishops wife is exempt from guilt in December - she is entitled to eat everything she gets because of tithing settlement.
plus you ran with a sore throat, good job.
Michal - good job on teaching your kids so well!
marlajayne, I hear you on the chocolate thing great idea to give them to the missionaries, I think you added a brick to your mansion on high!
Trixie - genius - I am glad I am related to you. We handed out pepperming hot chocolate and candy canes which stopped us from worrying about the cookie sheets, but I loved "three cups of tea". I think I will sign your pact. Next year, I won't even have to crush candy canes.
Millie, I do love steamed asparagus with lemon pepper, and fresh green beans with molly mcbutter and salt, yummmm. great idea.

My husband is the YM president and I'm in the YW presidency so we're taking our Christmas candy to church to give to our youth. :) We figure they'll work it off a whole lot faster than we would.
