We handed out pepperming hot chocolate and candy canes which stopped us from worrying about the cookie sheets, but I loved "three cups of tea". I think I will sign your pact. One year I got a tin of "regifted" cookies. How do I know they were regifted? Because the ones at the bottom were moldy and the regifter, had she made them, would have known when they would have expired.

We should all work to change the holiday cookie tradition. Following the example of a friend, this year instead of giving calories, I made donations in friends names to the Central Asia Institute, copied the donation slip, printed off pictures of the children the money sponsored, wrote that they could read more about it in the book, "Three Cups of Tea" and put it all in a pretty Christmas card. It felt good and I didn't pull out a single cookie sheet in December. I'm still being thanked for the nice gift.

I think we should start a campaign. Instead of making and eating cookies during the holidays, lets send the $5 cookie ingredients money and donate it to a humanitarian fund in friends names. That way we can sleep well at night knowing we are making a difference in the world, and as an added bonus, look thinner and not feel guilty about dumping each others treats in the trash on New Years Day.

PS I threw my goodies in the trash and didn't dumpster dive once!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6743919178082251405.post-11870758220828044602008-01-04T08:08:00.000-08:002008-01-04T08:08:00.000-08:00We have the same problem around our house: too muc...We have the same problem around our house: too much food (especially the yummy but high calorie kind), and I just could not bring myself to throw it away. I kept having these images of starving children that I used to tell my own children in order to get them to eat their carrots. Then Sunday matters got worse when someone gave me a belated gift of Ghirardelli milk chocolates. I LOVE those little squares of absolute sweet, savory, delectable goodness. However, I was strong and did not open them. Yesterday I gave the tempting goodies to the missionaries, and they were elated.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6743919178082251405.post-4374803423584293282008-01-03T16:17:00.000-08:002008-01-03T16:17:00.000-08:00this morning after breakfast, i called my kids to ...this morning after breakfast, i called my kids to the bar and told them, "have at these cookies and candy. in ten minutes, everything is going in the garbage!" surprisingly, they each chose one cookie and were finished. they must be as sick of rich food as i am. time to get that cute butt you were talking about!Michalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11516535861628199093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6743919178082251405.post-25063017496337310862008-01-03T13:59:00.000-08:002008-01-03T13:59:00.000-08:00We don't have any to throw out, we ate them all! ...We don't have any to throw out, we ate them all! (My secret with those, is that I keep the box all taped up so that I am only tempted to take out one of the chocolates when I'm in the mood to completely unwrap the box and then wrap it up again with the long piece of sealing tape. Marc won't even go near it because it doesn't want to deal with the tape situation... lol)

BTW, last night Marc mentioned you used to work at a place where you made those Granny's cookies... my response to him was, "gosh, I wonder why she hasn't blogged about that yet...
